Participants of the previous meetings of this North American series on disease modeling fully endorsed the idea of a follow\u2010up workshop to be held in the Centro Internacional de Ciencias (CIC). The workshop series has been focusing on pandemic influenza modeling, and a goal of the CIC workshop is to summarize what has been learned form the H1N1 pandemic, and what new questions for study have arisen. We also hope the CIC workshop will expand the focus of the first two workshops from mathematical epidemiology of A (H1N1) to include virus evolution and pathogenesis. The choice of Cuernavaca is particularly appropriate as the CIC and its neighbourhood (including the Mexican NIH, the C3 group, the Institute of Biotechnology, and the Center of Genomic Sciences) provides one of the best combinations of research scientists in the relevant research areas. Cuernavaca is easily reachable from the Mexico City airport, via a comfortable bus that leaves every hour and takes less than two hours to get to Cuernavaca. It is located at about 1,500 meters over sea level, and in the period of the meeting it is likely to feature a pleasant and fresh climate. |
