We are organizing a two week academic gathering on the theory and applications of random walks, to take place from the 12 to the 23 of January 2009 at the Centro Internacional de Ciencias AC in the city of Cuernavaca, Mexico. The main purpose of the workshop is to determine the present and future trends in this field; to discuss which are the most challenging problems and which are the most promising lines of research. To this end, there will be formal and informal seminars, working rooms available, a few computers and most importantly, plenty of time to interact, exchange points of view, and collaborate. The expected topics will probably include, but should not be limited to, fundamentals of the theory of random walks and brownian motion, random walks on potential landscapes, memory effects, Levy processes, fractional diffusion equations, first passage statistics and trapping problems, rare events, properties of systems with many random walkers, as well as applications of random walk models in physics, biology, economy, etc... |
