Academic Year 2008

German - Mexican symposium and gathering on the physics of billiard systems
Gathering: 10th - 23rd of August 2008
Embedded symposium: 10th - 15th

Scientific organizers:
Thomas Guhr (Duisburg-Essen)
Achim Richter(Darmstadt)
Thomas H. Seligman (Cuernavaca)

Billiards were introduced as paradigmatic dynamical systems to discuss classical chaos. In the context of quantum chaos they have acquired a particular importance not only in theory, but also because experiments are possible. In this context microwave experiments have been most successful, but other options such as elastic and optical billiards have been considered. The gathering will concentrate on the research of these subjects, and the symposium will also explore options for an extended German-Mexican collaboration on billiard systems.
